Against the backdrop of intensifying challenges such as global climate change and biodiversity loss, forests stand as one of the Earth’s most critical carbon sinks and ecological barriers. Their sustainable governance directly underpins the delivery of global climate goals and the Sustainable Development Agenda. How to further enhance forest carbon sink capacity, optimize multi-functional management models, and advance the efficient and sustainable utilization of forest biomass resources has become a major global concern.Meanwhile, the advancement of emerging technologies including artificial intelligence and remote sensing presents unprecedented opportunities for the transformation and upgrading of forest governance. To address ecological governance challenges under the new context and promote transnational and interdisciplinary collaborative innovation, the International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO), Chinese Academy of Forestry, International Centre for Bamboo and Rattan, Nanjing Forestry University, together with relevant forestry research and educational institutions, jointly organize this conference.
The conference will be held in a hybrid format (combining online and offline participation). Under the theme “Forest Governance under Global Change:Innovation of Science, Technology and Policy,” the conference will focus on key topics including cutting-edge scientific issues in forest governance, policy innovation and international cooperation, forest carbon sinks and climate change, applications of artificial intelligence and remote sensing, practical exploration and industrial integration, among other core issues. The aim of this conference is to build a high-level international platform for exchange and cooperation, bring together global expertise, explore pathways for integrating science, policy, and technology, and promote more resilient and inclusive forest governance paradigms, thereby contributing to global ecological civilization.
